Snow.

Some people love it, some people don't. What do you think?
I know that at the start of winter I can't wait for the first snowfall. The sparkly, white layer covering the soft, brown ground, it just makes me smile. But, by the end of the year I cannot wait to see the green of grass again and hear birds chirping. I am tired of snow, of seeing white everywhere, of getting cold, of shovelling. Just make it stop! Please!!!!

Eating Paleo

We've been doing the paleo diet since November. It's great!

What is the paleo diet, you ask?

In the paleo diet you don't eat any dairy, (cheese, milk, dairy products, etc...) any thing containing lectins (tomato seeds, beans, peas, etc.), anything with gluten (wheat products: bread, cake, cookies, etc.), and absolutely nothing processed! Eating this way has made me feel great, I have tons of energy, no face problems and once you start eating just veggies, fruits, nuts, berries and meat ( as well as other things) you won't go back to the way you ate before!

There are tons of websites with paleo/primal recipes. You may think coming up with ideas for a meal would take forever, but it doesn't. Either you think one up yourself or go to one of the many sites.

One of the things that is often involved with the paleo diet is personal fitness. Many people are doing intensive activities, such as karate, parkour, Cross-Fit and sports. Yes, many people do this already, but...

So, if you want to be super healthy and fit, join the paleo diet! You won't be sorry.

International Women's Day

Today, March 8th, is international woman's day. IWD is celebrated in countries all around the world, even Haiti.

IWD started out as a national holiday in the states, when 15, 000 men and women marched the streets of New York, demanding better pay, shorter working hours, better working conditions and the right to vote. A couple years later, nothing much had changed. A fire broke out in the garment factories where the protests first began. About 150 women were killed, this was because the company had not invested in windows or escape routes, so the women were left to burn. This is a disturbing thought.

Now, nearly 100 years later, we women are starting to take charge. Think about you're government and ask yourself this: How many women can you name that are sitting in government right now? Probably not that many. I believe that the world would have less poverty and child labour, as well as others, if there were more women in charge. Yes, I am a little biased, but this is only because the women would most likely have a better understanding, and sometimes even experience with, the causes that the men are dealing with now.

Think about this. What happens to all the women when their husbands, sons or fathers die in war? They are left to feed their children, make all the money and keep the house. They would die of starvation, poverty, maybe even work related things, such as the fire in the garment factory.

We must do something, us women, stand up! Be strong, be better! As this years International Women's Day theme says: Strong Women. Strong World!

Is the Apocalypse happening in 2012?

Will the world end on December 21st of 2012?

I don't think so. Just because some Mayan calendar ends on that particular day, doesn't mean a thing! For all we know, the world might end tomorrow! There are books, movies and so many other things about 2012, but who really cares? I don't! Do you? I you do, please explain, it makes absolutely NO sense to me!!!

Playing With Scissors

This is a story I had to write for L.A.:

Regret is something that makes you want to change what you did. And boy, did I wish I had listened to my mom! At seven years old, I thought I knew it all! I was told, years ago, when we had just moved into our new house, that I was not to play with the scissors, or cut my hair with them.

This day would be awesome! I was going to get a haircut, but not at a hairdresser, I was going to do it by myself! That day, my mom and dad were downstairs cleaning out the basement, my sister was sleeping in her cot and I was all alone.

I quietly tiptoed into the kitchen, where all of our utensils were kept. I walked around the island corner, making sure to keep super quiet, and stopped in front of the top drawer. The drawers were white with a green ball for a handle. The floors squeaked with every step, and so did the drawers. I grasped the green ball of a handle and gently pulled, the drawer opened quietly and with ease. I reached in, listening for my parents to come up the stairs, and grabbed the blue and black pair of long, sharp scissors. My heart was pounding for the fear of my parents catching me.

I walked down the hall, rounded the corner and plopped down in front of our linen cupboard. I carefully held a piece of my hair and brought the scissors up to the strand. I slowly closed the scissors down on my hair. I heard a snipping sound as bits of my long, brown hair fell to the ground.

I swept up the mess of hair with my hands; heart thumping, and carefully opened the linen cupboard door. I gently laid the strands of hair just behind the doorframe, hoping my parents wouldn’t find it. I closed the cupboard door and sighed. I had done it! Now all I have to do is put the blue and black scissors away.

Across the hall, my sister shifted in her bed. I cringed. I hoped it wasn’t me that had made her move. I snuck down the hall, scissors in hand, and making sure to be “Light as a fairy” and stepped into the kitchen. Again I quietly slid the top drawer open, and gently laid the scissors down. I heard a noise! It was my parents coming upstairs! I quietly and quickly closed the drawer and ran to my room.

I had succeeded!

Later that day, my mom found the few strands of hair behind the door. I was called from my room. As I got into the living room, I was told to sit down and listen to a lecture about scissors, obeying rules, and cutting my hair. I will never use scissors again!

We have not yet set an exact date, but we are planning for sometime after June, after school ends.
